I spent my Sunday morning making macarons for the first time! They are a lot of work, but sooo worth it for these little sweet treats!
I started with the recipe in this cute little book, I ♥ Macarons, by Hisako Ogita. The recipe for the cookie part worked very well! I thought it would be super hard, but I followed the directions to a T, and it all went smoothly. The buttercream recipe on the other hand, didn't work so well (I tried the #2 black tea recipe, and it was just a gooey mess... I wonder if something was lost in the translation from Japanese to English. So I just ended up making my own chocolate buttercream, and they turned out yummy!
I think macarons look like little mini hamburgers so I totally made this Big Mac-aron!
Here's the buttercream recipe I used:
4 ounces of semi-sweet baker's chocolate
3/5 cups of whipping cream
1 cup shortening or unsalted butter
1 tsp of almond flavoring, water or milk.
2 cups of powdered sugar
-Bring the whipping cream to a boil on the stove. Turn of the heat and add the chocolate. Mixing until smooth.
-In a mixer, cream the butter and flavoring/milk. Add the ganache and mix until well blended. Add the powdered sugar and mix for another few minutes.
Hmmm, who should I send them to?
